3.A is the third album by Lines and Patterns. When I started Lines and Patterns at the beginning of 2020 it was my intention to produce fairly long-form works with little-to-no narrative drive. As the tracks for 'trailhead' and 'In Anticipation' started to take shape it became clear to me that I was more interested in making shorter works with more-defined formal structures. Still, there is something I quite enjoy in these earlier experiments, and it's been fun to revisit these works, dust them off a bit and add some sparkles here and there. This album, and in theory, those that follow with the 'number.letter' title will represent these works.

The first track, 'Bees', was particularly exciting to rediscover. At some point in the summer of 2020 a large number of bumblebees convened on a bush out front, and thanks to their generally-docile nature, provided me with the opportunity to get up close and personal with my flash recorder. It is as satisfying as it is creepy to hear layers of these bees flying around, supported by a bed of modular synthesizers and other sonic artifacts.
